The Mountain Rescue Association and the Rocky Mountain Region sends our thoughts to the family of Steve Zuckerman. Steve was a force in backcountry search and rescue, and was a driver in the formation of the Colorado Hoist Rescue Team, on which he served as a Rescue Tech. Steve was a former member of Vail Mountain Rescue.
Repost from @ecparamedics:
Our hearts are broken. Steve Zuckerman, a full-time paramedic with Eagle County Paramedic Services, died while responding to a backcountry rescue call today in Vail. He was 61 years old.
“Steve was one of the helpers,” said Eagle County Paramedic Services CEO Brandon Daruna. “He never missed an opportunity to contribute and his death leaves a giant void in our organization and community.”
Steve worked Beaver Creek Ski Patrol for more than 25 years and started as a part-time paramedic with Eagle County Paramedic Services in April 2008. He joined our full-time staff in May 2013. He was a member of the Search and Rescue team, a field trainer and was in training as a critical care paramedic. He also served as medical director for the World Cup races in Beaver Creek.
In a social media post for Eagle County Paramedic Services, Steve wrote, “EMS is a team sport and I work on an amazing team. Each day brings new challenges and new opportunities to practice field emergency medicine and to make a small difference.”
Steve made a difference every day; there are really no words.

Happy International Mountain Rescue Day!!!
In 2022 the membership of ICAR – at the assembly of delegates – unanimously voted on a proposal by the Mountain Rescue Austria to the establish an International Mountain Rescue Day (IMRD).
The purpose of the IMRD is to celebrate the dedication and selfless work that mountain rescue people do to keep everyone safe in the mountains around the world.
As a proud member of ICAR, the Mountain Rescue Association Rocky Mountain Region is honored to share and celebrate this legacy.

It is with great sadness that the region learned about the passing of Leo Lloyd. Leo Lloyd was an integral part of the SAR community, a member of La Plata County Search and Rescue. He served many years in emergency services, including Durango Fire Protection District, and other agencies. He was an amazing teacher and has worked with many teams and individuals from around our region. We send our deepest condolences to the Lloyd family.

The region extends its deepest condolences to @bcso_sheriff and @bcfirerescue . We are heartbroken to learn about the crash that took the lives 4 first responders. These individuals have helped support many SAR missions around the state of NM and worked closely with NM SAR volunteers. They also work closely with the @unm_mountainmed, which many mra members have either attended or helped instruct.
